Waffle with IDLI batter - Iddafle

We had some guests over and wanted to make something different, I asked if they want to have Waffle for breakfast and made the mix with Spelt and left the job to my husband since I was taking them to farmers market.  I was worried giving that job to him but he did a very good job.  Then he made these delicious waffles with Idli batter and it was a super hit. I added some shredded purple cabbage for a nice crunch and color. 

Idli batter is super high in its protein and carb content and makes this waffle a great alternate to the regular Idlis. My younger one named it Idaffle (Idli + Waffle)



What you need?

(makes 1 waffle can be cut into 4)

Idli batter - 1 cup
Shredded purple cabbage-1/4 cup

How to make?

  • Heat the waffle griddle
  • Pour the mixed batter into it
  • Follow the general instructions to remove.

There are unlimited variations you can do to this by adding onions/carrots/fresh mint or coriander.   Have fun making your own waffle.


Please note that the idli batter waffle turns dry very quickly, either you need to make it fresh or brush some oil immediately for later usage.

In case of left overs, you can toast the waffles before using.
