Wholegrain Spelt Yeast Bread

Yeast Bread making can be fun if you are persistent in getting a hang of it!   Honestly, I made so many bricks before making decent ones.  I have been making yeast breads for almost a decade now.  I love Spelt flour for its texture, taste and health benefits!   My kids love this flour too.   My younger one -12 yrs old makes awesome cakes, cup cakes and choco chip cookies with Spelt Flour.   It is a great blessing for people like us who do not eat egg.

Coming to Yeast Bread!

You need good quality/fresh flour,  yeast in the first place.

What you need?

Whole grain Spelt Flour - 3.5 cups - 3 Tbsp
Vital wheat Gluten - 3 Tbsp
Salt - 1 tsp
Sugar/Jaggery - 1 tsp
Steamed Carrot/ Pumpkin - 1 cup (room temperature)
Oil - 3 Tbsp
Buttermilk - 1/4 cup
luke warm Water - 1/4 cup
Active Dry Yeast - 2.5 tsp

How to make?

I was able to record a video for some of my friends.

  • Water temperature is critical for yeast making.   It should neither be too hot nor too cold.  Activate yeast in a luke warm water.   Measure 1/4 cup water, add 1 tsp sugar and 2.5 tsp of yeast.   Mix well and leave it aside for 5 mins.  It should froth if not discard and repeat!
  • Measure Flour and liquids as shown in the video
  • I used bread machine to knead, rise, proof and bake!
